A small journal, written under the Moon.
The Luna Balloon began as a notebook — phase dates, mission notes, the occasional essay on tides. It has since become a public archive: nightly observations of a single satellite that has shaped our calendars, our oceans, and our reach into space.
Editorial Stance
Curious, accurate, never breathless.
We write for the reader who wants to understand the Moon as a body, a clock, and a destination. Every essay is sourced; every phase calculation is checked against the JPL Horizons system. The aesthetic owes more to almanacs than to news feeds.
Public archive
Most imagery is in the public domain. We restore it; we credit it.
No clickbait
A Blue Moon is not a portent. A super-moon is 14% brighter. We will not pretend otherwise.
Slow publishing
Roughly one essay a week. One monthly almanac. Nothing in between.

The desk
A rotating crew of three editors — an astrophysicist, an archivist, and a writer — assembled the project in 2022. We answer correspondence by hand.
